What's on the TEAS® science section?
TEAS® Science has 50 questions (44 scored) in 60 minutes. The scored questions cover human anatomy and physiology (18), biology (9), chemistry (8) and scientific reasoning (9), so anatomy and physiology is the biggest single area.
Anatomy and physiology (18 scored)
Body systems and how they work together: cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, nervous, endocrine, urinary, immune, skeletal, muscular, reproductive and integumentary. Expect questions on hormones and feedback loops, the path of blood or air, and which organ does what.
Biology (9 scored)
Cells and their parts, DNA and protein synthesis, mitosis and meiosis, genetics with Punnett squares, and microorganisms. Many questions test whether you can tell two similar ideas apart.
Chemistry (8 scored)
Atomic structure, the periodic table, bonds, balancing equations, pH, solutions and osmosis, and states of matter. Only 8 questions, but they lean on traps such as reading the pH scale as linear.
Scientific reasoning (9 scored)
Reading an experiment: independent and dependent variables, controls, what the data does and doesn't support, and units of measurement. No memorizing needed, but the wrong answers are built to sound reasonable.
What to study first
Start by finding out which mistakes you actually make. Two people with the same score can miss questions for very different reasons, and rereading a whole textbook is the slowest way to find yours. A short diagnostic that explains why each wrong answer tempted you points you to the few topics worth your time.
Common questions
Is anatomy and physiology the biggest part of TEAS® Science?
Yes. 18 of the 44 scored science questions are anatomy and physiology, about 40% of the section.
How much chemistry is on the TEAS®?
8 scored questions in the Science section, on topics such as atomic structure, bonding, pH, solutions and balancing equations.
How long is the TEAS® Science section?
60 minutes for 50 questions, about 72 seconds per question.
